Tartarus was not the underworld. It lay beneath it, the abyss where the gods sent the Titans when even Hades was not far enough. An anvil dropped from earth would fall for nine days before reaching it. These dark spheres carry that gravity, heads of something that grew once, finished, and now stand in rows refusing to forget.
